Can you use a bass guitar to play drum and bass?

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but is it possible to use a guitar for consistent bass on a drum and bass track?

My drummer is comfortable playing drums at 180bpm so I was wondering if I could play bass at that speed.

If so, what effects would be recommended to make it that little more punchy with more bass?
