On my drum set, every single time I hit another drum or my bass drum, my snare always starts to ring like crazy and playing music gets hard when I constantly hear this ringing sound! How am I supposed to stop this from happening??? Please help!

Put a quilt or cover over your drum. TWIHARD…the only original :)

First is your snare on or off? I know my band director yells as percussionist for leaving it on so if you want no ringing turn off the snare. By doing that you’ll find switches on the sides of the snare, push it down and you won’t get any ringin, but if you go to play it nd you want the snare on that’s a problem so all you can do is move it away from the other drum sets and hope it won’t vibrate to turn it on sometimes though sounds waves when the snare is on will cause it to ring. This is how my band director tests it we’re all in tune or not (or at least the tubas)

So all you can do is move it around or turn off the snare, I hoped this helps some I’m not much of a percussionist so don’t sue me if it doesn’t MusicGirl

You can try a couple of things. Most people tune their toms and bass drums too low. They tune them so they sound good sitting at the drum set, but when you are in the back of a large room, they sound like a cardboard box. Try raising the pitch of your drums to see if that eliminates the snare rattle. You can also play around with how your snare is tuned. Tighten or loosen the snares or the bottom head. Also make sure the snares have full contact with the bottom head. If the some of the snares are not against the head, they will rattle. Good luck jackkirby

You say RING but i think you mean rattle??

If it is rattleing then the snares (metal chains on the bottom drum head) are too loose so the vibration from the bass drum is causing them to rattle. To fix this you have to tighten them by turning the snare peg (round circle on side of snare drum) clockwize to tighten the snares to stop the rattling.

If it is RINGING.. which i have never really heard, you could try putting a small peice of duck tape on the top head of your snare to stop unnescessary vibrations. Austin

That is just the nature of the beast. A metal snare drum is going to ring. You can tune it correctly to help. There is also a device known as a dead ringer which is a circular piece of drum head that is the same diameter as the snare. It can help reduce the ringing but it will not eliminate it. There are also internal mufflers that will help but the best way to reduce it is with proper heads and correct tuning gtarczar
